چکیده

This paper is concerned with a class of low-rate codes constructed from Hadamard code arrays. A recursive encoding principle is employed to introduce an interleaving gain. Very simple trellis codes with only two or four states are sufficient for this purpose, and the decoding cost involved in the trellis part is typically negligible. Both simulation and analytical results are provided to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is of theoretical interest as it can achieve performance of BER = 10 5 at 0 1.2 dB (only about 0.4 dB away from the ultimate low-rate Shannon limit) with an information block size of 65534. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the best result achieved to date with respect to the ultimate Shannon limit. With regard to practical issues, the decoding complexity of the proposed code is considerably lower than that of existing low-rate turbo-type codes with comparable performance.

Construction of coset-based low rate convolutional codes and their application to low rate turbo-like code design - Communications, 2003. ICC '03. IEEE International Conference on

In this paper, we propose a novel method to construct low rate recursive convolutional codes. The ‘overall’ convolutional code has a block code and a simple recursive convolutional code as building blocks. The novelty of this type of convolutional code is that it uses coset leaders in order to distinguish the signals that originate from different states. Several of these codes are then used to ...

Variable Rate Superorthogonal Turbo Code with the OVSF Code Tree

When using modern Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) in mobile communications, the user must be able to vary the transmission rate of users to allocate bandwidth efficiently. In this work, Orthogonal Variable Spreading Factor (OVSF) codes are used with the same principles applied in a low-rate superorthogonal turbo code due to their variable-length properties. The introduced system is the Var...

New Linear Codes over Zps via the Trace Map

The trace map has been used very successfully to generate cocyclic complex and Butson Hadamard matrices and simplex codes over Z4 and Z2s . We extend this technique to obtain new linear codes over Zps . It is worth nothing here that these codes are cocyclic but not simplex codes. Further we find that the construction method also gives Butson Hadamard matrices of order p.

Evaluating the performance of turbo codes and turbo-coded modulation in a DS-CDMA environment

Recently, turbo codes have received great attention due to their outstanding performance. Unfortunately, a high performance is associated with large transmission delays prohibiting an application for speech transmission. Hence, the aim of this paper is the comparison of turbo codes employing short interleavers with convolutional codes in terms of bit error rate performance and computational eff...
